-Genesis 27:28 NIV-
Often, life does not turn out as I expect. Even with the best plans, life has many unexpected twists and turns. Quite a few of them depend on the decisions of others which can make most of us feel slightly out of control.
One winter day, I remember I got stuck on a subway platform in the middle of a New York City snowstorm. The one day you wish the train was packed, it had a handful of people. Intermittently, the conductor opened the door to let one or two people into the car, and the cold and snow blew right in with them. We quickly became like frozen food. I decided to make light of the situation and give everyone a good laugh!
About three hours later, the train had not moved. We weren’t sure when it would. About that time, our intermittment laughter was about to become lunacy!
Finally, when we all were about to blow, the conductor stated we would have to get off the train, and go to the bus stop. In fact, some of us might have to take a few busses. We got our backpacks, bundled, and boogied out the door.
A few more laughs and hours later, I made it to where I needed to go. While I would like to say, I had some romantic or enchanted bus ride, I didn’t. Yet, I did get to my goal in a rather goofy way.
Recently, as I have reflected on my stuck in the snowstorm day, I decided to change my perspective. Yes, I thought if perhaps I looked at the process in a different way I would get a new view.
So, as I glanced back on my adventure, I decided to think New York City, snowflakes, and smiles on the subway. Indeed, I didn’t have a sluggish day, I had sweet and successful quest!
This month, if you feel like your life seems cold and you seem a little lost, remember to wait and watch. While the train might not move much, try to change your outlook. A slow going adventure may just be one of your best tickets!
